Meet the Sweden 2020 J-term Class:

After one of our first classes, we took about 50 photos across from Starbucks in our business building on campus to give as thank-you gifts for the CEOs that we will be meeting in Sweden. We did get a nice group photo, but unfortunately my eyes are closed in it 😦 so this is the best I could do! I’m not exactly sure what we are supposed to be pointing at, but maybe I will find out later!
About our class:
We have a total of 18 students going to Sweden. All of us are some type of a business major, whether that be Management, Marketing, Accounting, Finance, or a combination of those. We have only had a couple of students go to Europe previously, so that is something that we are all very excited about!

In this course, we expect to learn all about international business travel at a very high level (especially the businesses in Sweden), learn about cultural differences, and understand some of the history of Sweden. We also will learn about specific company and business knowledge and how they do business/marketing in Sweden, learn about robotics being used around the world, learn about international business from Swedish and German professors, and learn how other companies sell/market their products globally.
Meet our professors:

Professor Joseph (J.J.) Shields teaches courses in marketing and business management at Carthage. He has worked for several major corporations, including Miller Brewing Co., ABB Robotics, and Snap-on. He earned a B.S. in engineering from the University of Michigan, and an M.B.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Dr. Jan Owens, Chair of the Department of Management and Marketing at Carthage College
Carthage College:

Carthage College was founded in 1847 and sits on more than 80 acres of land on the shores of Lake Michigan. There are about 2,600 full-time undergraduate students, a 12:1 student-to-faculty ratio, and 120+ student organizations. The average class size is just 17 students. There are more than 50 areas of study for majors, minors, and concentrations. Professors, not teaching assistants, teach all classes. There are beautiful buildings all across campus, from the A.W. Clausen Center for World Business, to the Tarble Athletic and Recreation Center. There is even a Starbucks! And within only an hour drive of both Milwaukee and Chicago, it provides the perfect opportunity for Carthage to be ranked #3 nationally for student participation in short-term study abroad, or J-term, which is why we are going to Sweden!
